When this system is not functioning at its peak, the overall performance of the human body is lacking. In the Chiropractic world, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. While supplementation and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions can be viewed as band-aids to treat symptoms rather than going to the source and treating the real problem. While it's often perceived that a Chiropractor's sole purpose is to treat back and neck pain, this is simply a very small portion of what the profession is capable of handling as a whole. Chiropractors not only treat soft tissue and skeletal problems such as sciatica and joint pain, but are largely called on to deal with more significant issues. Some of these issues include fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, headaches, vertigo, foot drop and many more.
Many have also noticed that Chiropractic adjustments have helped prevent or reduce the duration of their colds or other illnesses. While some argue that the common cold is a self-resolving condition, “some preliminary data from an ongoing asthma trial show that chiropractic manipulation increases immunoglobulin A levels and decreases the levels of glucocorticoid cortisol, a major component of stress,” says Anthony Rosner, PhD, LLD, FCER director of education and research. If nothing else, the connection between Chiropractic and cold relief could be through stress reduction as a result of the body's increased ability to heal itself after a Chiropractic adjustment relieves pressure or impediments on the nervous system.
